Infection in the gums is very common in Egypt and affects a large portion of the population but usually go unnoticed until they cause more pronounced symptoms. The research shows almost 26% of adults in Egypt suffer from gum disease, and 3.2% suffered the most severe form.\u00a0 Only a small percentage, approximately 7%, have healthy gums and are plaque free.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These numbers are based on findings from a national study published in November 2021, titled “Periodontal diseases and potential risk factors in the Egyptian adult population.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This prevalence underscores the importance of understanding gum infections, why they develop, and the early warning signs that can help prevent them from progressing to more advanced dental issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 4 Stages of Gum Disease\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

  1. Gingivitis<\/b>: The initial stage of gum disease. The gums appear red, swollen and may even bleed when brushing or flossing teeth. You will not notice any bone loss in this stage and the treatment is highly effective.<\/span> <\/li>\n
  2. Mild Periodontitis<\/b>:The untreated bacteria begin to break down the ligaments, soft tissue, and bone that support your teeth. It is usually also accompanied by bad breath, pus, and sometimes pain.<\/span> <\/li>\n
  3. Moderate Periodontitis<\/b>: Bacteria have now caused degradation of your ligaments, soft tissues, and the supporting bone. Symptoms may include bad breath, pus, and sometimes pain.<\/span> <\/li>\n
  4. Advanced Periodontitis<\/b>: In the late stages of periodontal disease, there is significant bone loss. Your teeth may loosen and eventually fall out.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
